2019 LAPF Rose Award
PAST EVENT: 2018 LAPF Rose Awards
The 2018 LAPF Rose Award was presented at a luncheon event in the Rose Garden on Thursday, April 26, 2018. The award recognized a woman who has made an extraordinary contribution to the quality of life in Los Angeles. The Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Parks Foundation selected Lauren Bon as the 2018 recipient. Her selection is based on Lauren’s work intersecting art and nature which raises public awareness of the significance of environmental justice, stewardship, and sustainability to improve our quality of life in Los Angeles.
Lauren Bon created Metabolic Studio derived from the Greek word for “change”, “metabolism” is the process that maintains life. The actions generated by Metabolic Studio are global in focus and reach: developing new tools for urban living and city planning; inventing novel social practices for political and environmental justice; and directing art practice to engage on the same scale as society’s capacity to destroy. Lauren Bon’s Los Angeles Metabolic Studio is a powerful force for change, showing that another reality is possible and pointing the way new endeavors and practices in an age of economic and environmental scarcity.
The LAPF Rose Award is an annual luncheon & ceremony attended by LA civic and philanthropic leaders who care about the future of Los Angeles city parks–including many of our local elected officials. Past honorees have included former Congresswoman Jane Harmon, Olympian Mia Hamm, actress Betty White, and architect Brenda Levin. All funds raised through the event go to support the Los Angeles Parks Foundation.
